Friends, I am delighted to tell you that there’s now an institution (Syracuse) whose university-wide policy on plagiarism is directly influenced by the WPA Best Practices document.

If you are involved in curricular activism at your own institution, this is good news for you, because of how often committees want precedents before they make policy changes. Well, now there’s a precedent for an institutional policy that differentiates plagiarism and misuse of sources:

It doesn’t go as far as the WPA document does in that differentiation. (I won’t elaborate on the differences here, but they’re on my blog if you’re interested:

But it’s a vast improvement over most existing institutional policies. And maybe the next institution that revises its policy will decide to venture even closer to the WPA recommendations!
