Initially this list of online, free-access journals in the area of writing studies was constructed in July, 2010 by Rich Haswell with the help of Cheryl Ball, Vicki Byard, Patty Ericsson, Charlie Lowe, and Lynn Reid. URLs are pages, usually homepages, which contain a link to current and past issues. At the end of this list are two omnibus compilations of online journals. WPA: Writing Program Administration. Free access to archives, less a window of two years, from the first issue in 1978.

Writing Instructor, 2001-. Described as ‘a networked journal and digital community for writers and teachers of writing.’

Writing Lab Newsletter. Not sure when they went digital, but their free online archives go back to their first issue in 1976. Described as ‘Promoting the exchange of voices and ideas in one-to-one teaching of writing.’

X/changes: An Interdisciplinary Technical Communication and Rhetoric/Writing Journal, 2001-. Fall/winter issue pieces are written by undergraduate students; spring/summer issues by graduate students.
